Learning Support at Onerahi School is focused on making sure access to education is equitable and effectively meeting the needs of each individual student. We believe tamariki have the right to succeed through being themselves, knowing themselves, and building on the strengths they carry with them.

The Learning Support Team is involved in running various student support programmes, providing advice and guidance to whanau and teachers, organising Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and connecting various outside agencies (such as Ministry of Education, RTLB, and Northland Health) into a cohesive team. It doesn’t matter where your child is achieving in the New Zealand Currciulum, Learning Support is focused on helping them continue to grow and find success in their learning.

Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) provide a cohesive plan developed by the school, student, whanau, and any outside agencies. This process is strength focused, celebrating what is working well and then setting clear goals to work towards. ILPs are unique to each child and can be develop either with the classroom teacher or with the support of Learning Support. They will clearly captured what support can look like at both home and at school.

If you would like to discuss your child’s learning further, your child’s classroom teacher is your first contact and are keen to meet with you.
